At an elevation of 839 meters in Samastad, you’ll find a rare gem where authentic Norwegian mountain farm culture is still very much alive. Here, you can stay in the heart of a living cultural landscape that was recently inscribed on UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage, with active mountain farming taking place right outside your windows.

The cabin is approximately 55 m² and features three bedrooms, a cozy living room with a fireplace, and a partially open kitchen with a dining area. The living room opens onto a covered terrace with stunning views and evening sun. The accommodations are simple yet comfortable, offering an authentic and down-to-earth cabin experience.

The cabin has 12V power, Wi-Fi, and a TV with Chromecast for guests who want to stay connected or stream content during their stay. It is equipped with a modern Separett composting toilet, which separates wet and dry waste and is virtually odorless. The kitchen has a gas refrigerator and a gas stove.

Fresh water is drawn from a private well located about 50 meters from the cabin. A water filtration system has been installed to provide safe drinking water directly from the well, so there’s no need to bring your own drinking water.

The private parking area is located about 100 meters from the cabin, and the walk to the cabin is easy and scenic.

From the private terrace, you’ll enjoy views of the mountain landscape, and the area around the cabin offers space for both tranquility and outdoor activities. Here you can spend long summer days picking blueberries, listening to the tinkling of bells from grazing animals, or simply breathing in the fresh mountain air.

With Samastad as your base, you have endless opportunities for nature experiences. The area offers a network of hiking trails, several fishing lakes, and great swimming spots. From mid-May to mid-October, you can experience the mountains at their liveliest, with summer pastures in full swing and bustling wildlife. It’s only a 1-hour and 50-minute drive from the cabin to three beautiful stave churches—Eidsborg, Heddal, and Røldal.
