About this house
This vacation home is an apartment nestled within the ancient tuff walls of Civita di Bagnoregio. When the day-trippers leave, the stone alleyways fall silent and the wind echoes through the Valle dei Calanchi: it is then that a stay here reveals its most authentic character.
The apartment features exposed wooden beams and ancient stone, complemented by soft fabrics, warm lighting, and furnishings collected over time. The window overlooking the quiet alleyways is one of the most beloved spots: in the afternoon, shadows glide across the stone facades.
Reaching Civita is already part of the experience: crossing the pedestrian bridge—best done early in the morning or in the late afternoon—leaves you suspended between sky and earth. The village is easily explored on foot, with family-run taverns and a small square where you can stop for an espresso or an ice cream.
The Cammino dei Calanchi trail descends to the clay spires known as La Cattedrale: from there, you can see Civita’s tuff cliff from below—a perspective most visitors never get to experience. A 15-minute drive away lies the abandoned medieval village of Celleno, while Orvieto, the Park of the Monsters in Bomarzo, and Lake Bolsena round out the options for day trips.
