About this house

Thomas and Mathias’s house is situated directly on the high banks of the Eider, Schleswig-Holstein’s largest river, and comprises a total of two apartments. It was designed by Mathias himself, and its interior evokes the architecture of 1970s America. The walls and ceilings throughout the living area, as well as the bathrooms, are paneled with oak and partially accented with local Jura natural stone. The floor-to-ceiling closet in the bedroom with a double bed blends almost seamlessly into the extensive paneling.

The skylight bathes the minimalist bathroom in warm, natural light and allows you to gaze at the starry sky while taking an evening bath. In the 4-meter-high living room, large panoramic windows provide plenty of light and a sweeping view of the surrounding landscape. The fireplace, together with lamps and furniture from the 1950s and 1960s, creates a warm and cozy atmosphere even in winter.

The large terrace with a 180-degree view of the natural surroundings invites you to enjoy long summer evenings outdoors. If you prefer to spend these evenings with a larger group, you can optionally reserve the second apartment on the garden level as well. From the house, you can reach the swimming spot just 200 meters away, where you can not only take a dip in the cool water but also enjoy all kinds of water sports such as surfing, canoeing, stand-up paddling, and water skiing. Just 10 km away lies Friedrichstadt—a town modeled after Dutch architecture and therefore often referred to as “Little Amsterdam.” The expansive beaches of St. Peter Ording are also less than an hour’s drive away.
